Stent successfully covered the fistula.
46 year-old man with squamous
cell carcinoma of the esophagus, who had symptoms of aspiration. Endoscopy
confirmed the presence of a fistula, which radiographically communicated with
the right bronchial tree. Endoscopic placement of a coated wire-mesh Stent
covered the fistula tract sufficiently to alleviate the symptoms of aspiration.
Intramural Fistula
34 year-old woman with AIDS who presented with dysphagia and
odynophagia. Endoscopy revealed a fistula, which proved on barium study to be
intramural. Endoscopic biopsies were negative for pathogens and for neoplasia.
